About Juan Pablo
Juan P. Villasmil is a research fellow at the Center for a Secure Free Society, as well as an associate editor at the Georgetown Security Studies Review and a staff writer at The Spectator.
Mr. Villasmil’s commentary and reporting has been featured in Fox News, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The Hill, Newsweek, Telemundo, Sky News, The American Conservative, The American Mind, Foreign Policy, The Telegraph, Quillette, The Wilson Center’s New Security Beat, and others.
Mr. Villasmil obtained a Bachelor’s International Studies from American University, where he focused on the western hemisphere, and he is pursuing a Master’s in Security Studies at Georgetown University, as well as an Asian Studies certificate. He has completed programs in both chambers of Congress, the Department of State, the Heritage Foundation, the Hoover Institution.
Mr. Villasmil has written extensively on China’s role in Latin America, electoral politics, sanctions policy, and foreign affairs more broadly. He represented the United States at the 2024 Youth and Democracy Summit at the Organization of American States and represents his Master’s class in Georgetown’s Graduate Government.
